Which Way Do You Swing ?
t*si devil said: your kennel run doors/gates ? into the pen or out ? i've got sliders at present, but am going to need to change when i move the runs to the new pad. my thinking is to swing in ... easier to put dog into run, and easier to gather up if they back away from the door/gate ? all galvanized steel, my MIG is my friend. okay serious answers from those with multiple kennels and experience, the rabble can just let loose if your inclined. .............tasi

Pr*irie Drifter said: My gates will swing either way. For the old dogs I generally swing them out. If I have a dog that wants to jump or escape, I swing them in. For cleaning, I swing them in so they don't have to walk around each of them. When it snows, you have to swing them out after you scoop the outside first.
z*chsdad said: Mine swing out. If a dog tries to break, I just slam it back and tell em stay!! I have stops , so I can slam the doors and pop em pretty good. I can see advantages to both ways, but I think I prefer out.
BdBH*nts said: I swing the doors in. If your hands are full then you can push the door open and close it with your foot. When it snows, you have to swing them out after you scoop the outside first. I like to leave 12-16" under the door for a small section of fencing to make opening easier when it looks like this outside. There are 4 steps to get up to the deck and cross to the door. http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o2/bdbhunts/th_DSC00853.jpg (http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o2/bdbhunts/DSC00853.jpg) All doors should swing in IMO, makes getting outside easier.;) http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o2/bdbhunts/th_DSC008581a.jpg (http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o2/bdbhunts/DSC008581a.jpg) Even sliders have a disadvantage. You have to shovel, or plow, all that snow to get the door to open properly.

jcl*fton said: I have 8 runs on my kennel and they all swing both ways, but I always open toward the inside. An old trainer told me he always opened his doors to the inside to make the dog back up and not get out. A friend was watching me clean the runs the other day and he commented on how all my dogs backed up to the back of the kennel. He couldn't believe they didn't make a run for the door. It must work.:)
