Bird Work?

chr*sco5111 said: I have a 4 month GSP and I am very new to this sport. She is pretty close to having a full grasp of Whoa and is good with most other comands. She comes on voice and whistle, is learning directions on whistle and is very excited about life. I've been working her using a quail wing at a local park and she loves it. She is very much into the chase and only points, well, sort of points (She's not too classy yet) after chasing for a while. It takes about 10 minutes. My question is this: Is this the perfect time to get her out on wild birds, and if so what do I do when she doesn't point and just rushes them? She's done that before and never seemed more excited. Do I get excited for her too or do I stay calm and just encourage her to find them again?

Ch*karnut said: Yes!! This is the perfect time to get her on wild birds. For the next couple months ( she is still real young) let her do whatever she is going to do. She is still just a pup. Fire a blank pistol as she chases to get her used to the gun. Get her to go with you. Don't do much else right now. Expose her to all the wild birds you can. Quit with the quail wing.
